Flashback to the 22nd of March 2020 and the impending lockdown in the UAE, attending a festive sports quiz with over 200 people seemed as though it would never take place again. But thanks to RetroSportif DXB’s Chris Huntley and Dubai Eye 103.8’s Chris McHardy, an evening full of forgotten about facts and faces from the world of sport were thrown into the mix.

6 varied rounds of questions were matched up nicely with the option of a festive turkey dinner and happy hour drinks for an enthusiastic crowd at the Grand Plaza Mövenpick situated in Media City. Christmas songs, sparkling lights and tables set outside by the infinity pool made for an ideal venue for such an event.

The crowd was an eclectic mix of nationalities, ages and fans of all sports, most of whom chose to show off their clubs colours in retro kits not seen since the 90s. As a free to enter quiz, there were also some top prizes on offer with brunches and staycations available to those who could exude their sporting knowledge above all others.

Despite our team not coming out on top for the quiz ( this may have been hindered by the 1 litre jug of HB beer for 45dhs), this type of event is exactly what is needed right now; groups of friends coming together (socially distanced of course) to talk about the one thing which often unites expats who are away from loved ones… the universal language, sport.

A very well organised event and one which thankfully is not set to be the last this year, with ‘The Big Fat Festive Football Quiz’ taking place on Monday 14th December – some of you may have been lucky enough to have attended one of the three previous footy trivia events, so know that this is not one to be missed.

Don’t forget to also check out RetroSportif DXB’s wide range of retro kits and bucket hats which will have you reminiscing about some of the footballs greats just from the sight of them.

Just some of the classic shirts which you are able to get your lucky hands on online at Retro Sportif DXB.
